Sample Preparation

Sample preparation is the first step in the Western blotting workflow, and sets the foundation for the quality of the results. A sample can be prepared in different ways, depending on the nature of the starting material and the intended type of analysis.

The main principle of sample preparation, however, is to ensure that the sample is in the best possible condition and level of purity required for the selected analysis.

Biological matrices are complex. The target protein is likely to be one among many thousands present in a sample, in addition to nucleic acids, polysaccharides, and lipids, all of which may interfere with the analysis. From cell lysis to protein extraction and sample clean-up, we offer a range of products for disrupting cells and preparing their contents for analysis by Western blotting.
